  Chapter 1

“So what does Mars look, Ariana?” Charly called as I slowly woke up out of my reverie of thoughts. “What?” I asked. She gave me a look. “You zoned out again, per usual. Your eyes were glassy and had a faraway look, yet again. What I was trying to tell you was that my birthday party is tomorrow. Are you coming or not?”

“Yeah, I’m going,” I replied, “How big is it going to be this year?” she merely smiled and said, “The biggest one yet. Okay, I have to go. I’m going to meet someone. You’ll meet them at the party. It’s at 8 p.m. tomorrow. Do not be late!” “I won’t,” I promised.

The next day I arrived at Charly’s house. I knocked on her door and yelled, “Charly! Charly, it’s Ariana! Open up!” Someone was watching me. I don’t know how, but I knew it. In fact, they were standing right behind me. I slowly turned around.

“Ariana, at last I have located you.” The Demon said as it looked upon me with its cold, bottomless, black eyes. I faced it and tried to it with a mind disk, but it was too strong minded and it bounced back and hit me instead, causing a massive amount of pain and for me to hit the ground.

I faintly heard someone shoving something into the Demon and then there was silence. A few minutes later, I heard footsteps start toward me and then stop, right by my head. “Are you okay?” the voice, a guy, asked me. He helped me up. “Yeah, I’m okay. Thank you.” I replied. “Why are you here anyways?” He looked at me, for a moment, and decided to answer me. “I was walking and tracking that thing when I stumbled upon it attacking you.”

“Oh, well, I’m Ariana. Thank you for saving me.” I thanked him warily. He seemed to remember something and blurted out, “What did you try to throw at it anyways?” Quickly after that, I just completely shut down. “I have to go. I’m going to my friend’s party. Bye.” I said, dismissing the topic. “Wait! What is your name?” Stefan said. I hesitated for a moment before I said, “Ariana.” He smiled. “It’s a very pretty name for a very pretty lady. I’m Stefan.” I smiled and nodded at him as I opened Charly’s front door and stepped inside.

The entire room had been transformed into a sunny day, outside. The ceiling was painted with clouds and a beautiful sky blue. The walls were blue and the bottom of them was painted like real vibrant, green grass. There were birds adorning the sky blue, painted walls.

There were benches and chairs covered in flowers and vines rapping all around them. The table was adorned with flowers and vines as well. Upon a platform, there were three chairs. One of the chairs seemed to be a Nature Queen chair, which Charly was sitting in. The others were at least two sizes smaller than hers. One of the chairs was occupied by a guy I had never seen before and the other was empty. There was card in that chair that said: Reserved for Ariana.

When Charly caught sight of me, she jumped up and ran over to me, with the mysterious guy falling behind her. “Hey! You made it! Oh my God, you’re bleeding! There’s a big gash on the side of your head.” She exclaimed. I looked up in surprise, “There is?” I asked. Charly nodded her head and asked, “What happened?” I merely replied, “Let’s just say I ran into complications. Who’s this?” I asked, pointing to the guy close behind her.

“This is Blake. He’s new to Hadley High.” She replied gesturing to him. I held out my hand. “Hi, I’m Ariana.” He shook my hand and said, “I’m Blake. It’s nice to meet you.” I gave him an once-over. He was wearing a jet black t-shirt, black leather jacket, black jeans, and motorcycle boots. He was pale and had black wavy hair that reached to his chin and curled around the edges.

His eyes were black as midnight and I couldn’t tell where his eye ended and his iris began. I looked into them and was immediately captivated. I could fall forever into that black recess of his eye, I thought. That’s how powerful those eyes were. He smiled at me and I smiled back quite brightly.

I’ve always thought of myself as ordinary so I was a bit confused on why Blake would like me. I was pale, but not too pale; have red velvet colored hair, chocolate brown eyes, and a bright, white smile. I was tall, about five foot five, and I, at the moment, was wearing black, super skinny jeans, a red spaghetti strap tank top, black leather jacket, and black wedges.

I heard the doorbell ring and suddenly I remembered something quite important. “Is it okay if I invited somebody? They’re at the door right now.” I told Charly. She looked at me said, “Yeah, that’s fine. Who is it?” I smiled and said mischievously, “Oh, you’ll see.”

I led them over to the door and invited him inside. I smiled and said, “This is Taylor. Taylor meet Charly,” I gestured with my hand to Charly,” and Blake.” I pointed to him as I said this. I told him to ‘dress to impress’ which he obviously did. He did it for Charly too, I thought.

He was wearing a black, silk, button-down shirt tucked into black jeans. His shoes were black Nikes. His skin was dark and his hair was even darker, almost black. His eyes were a deep Hershey’s chocolate brown and they couldn’t seem to leave Charly’s.

“Hi, I’m Taylor.” He said, mostly to Charly as he held out his much larger hand out to her smaller one and shook. They held each other’s hands a moment longer, then quickly let go as they noticed me and Blake staring. Blake took my own hand into his and led me deeper into the party atmosphere. We passed people dancing, talking, and laughing and we sat on a bench in the middle of Charly’s living room. We talked and got to know each other and were together the whole time. We quickly saw Taylor and Charly together all the time as well. They were too occupied to notice us, I thought and laughed.

“So,” Blake said, “let me get this straight and make sure it’s all correct. You’re sixteen years old, live in an apartment by yourself, have known Charly all your life, and-“, I interrupted him, “No, I’ve only known Charly since the sixth grade.” He continued as if I had never spoken, “you have known Charly since the sixth grade, and you don’t have a boyfriend, correct?” I replied, “No. I don’t have a boyfriend and my parents died in a car accident last year.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry. What happened?” he asked. “It’s okay. There was a drunk driver speeding at one hundred miles an hour, in the middle of the road, swerved, and hit my parents’ car head-on.” As I said this, a tear escaped my eye and I carelessly wiped it away, hoping he didn’t see.

I looked away and tried to get up, but he grabbed my arm and spun me around. He pressed his hands on both sides of my face and looked into my chocolate brown eyes. “Hey, Hey, listen. I am always here for you. You know that, right? You’re never alone.” I stared into his kind, warm, black as midnight eyes. I said, “That’s just it, though. I’ll always be alone, because no one understands me. If I told you who and what I really am, you’d think I was so crazy, you would take me to the nearest mental hospital and I’d be
there in under an hour.”

“What’s so bad and crazy that you can’t tell me?” he asked. I sighed, exasperated and exclaimed, “You won’t understand! No one does!” I stormed off and shut myself in Charly’s bedroom, but before I could lock it, Blake, Ariana, and Taylor cornered me at the top, left corner of her bedroom.

“You can’t run away from your problems forever,” Charly reminded me.

I laughed and said, “I can try.”

  “This is ridiculous,” Taylor exclaimed.

“Everybody has secrets. Mine is to stay hidden until the day I die.” I told everyone.

“What are you hiding?” Blake asked me.

“I can’t tell you! Don’t you think I would if I could? I’m entitled to my silence. I’m branded so I’ll keep my trap shut. I simply can’t.” I said then, and then realized I had let my true, British accent slip through.

“I know who you are.” Taylor said in a voice that was cold as ice.

I laughed nervously and said, “Yeah? Then who am I?”

“Time to go home, Ariana, or shall I use your real name? Anna.” Taylor said in a voice that wasn’t Taylor at all. My mouth opened in surprise then closed. My eyes hardened and turned red, for a moment, then they turned back to brown and my facial expression smoothed out. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, brother.” I said in the coldest voice I could manage. Everyone was surprised at my tone and look which I used to my advantage.

I spun around them and took off down the hall. I saw the front door and practically leapt for joy. That is until; they grabbed me and marched right back to the bedroom. “You want to know so badly? My name is Anna Gordon. I am not human. I can look at you and there be a sharp pain in your skull. You’ll be down in seconds. I’m dangerous. Just remember you guys asked for this. You just opened a war. I’m on the run. My father has this “plan” and I don’t want any part of it. He’s been hunting me down ever since I ran away. The only person who has actually found me is Taylor, but that’s not his real name. His real name is Tanner. He’s my brother. There you know everything. Can I leave now?”

They all nodded and Blake cleared his throat. “I’m not human, either. I’m from where you’re from. I was one of the lower ones so you didn’t really notice me. Blake told me shyly. My eyes widened as I remembered who this boy/man was. “Is it really you, Blakey?” I asked. His mouth turned in disgust at the old childhood nickname. ‘Please, don’t ever say that again,” he said, “I hated that nickname. It’s just Blake.” “Okay,” I said, “well we better get back to the party.” He looked at me and nodded. That was the end. We couldn’t keep secrets anymore, but I didn’t trust them. I didn’t trust them at all.

  Chapter 2

I stepped forward and then I felt it. The tugging of something, or someone, dark and they were right behind me. I spun around and came face-to-face with Stefan. “You haven’t been around much.” He accused. I tried to breathe in and out evenly, but it proved to be difficult. “What do you want?” I asked, coldly.

“What I’ve always wanted,” Stefan replied, “YOU.” I laughed. ‘Well newsflash, buddy, but just because you saved me, doesn’t make you a hero. If I were to choose, it would be Blake, always Blake.” This seemed to anger him more than anything else. I backed away, but not quick enough. He slapped me across the face and then just vanished. My whole face felt like it was on fire and blood was running down the side of it.

Blake walked towards Charly’s house and knocked. There was no answer. “Hello?’ he called, “Is anyone here? Charly, are you here?” He tried to open the door, meaning to break the door down, but the door was unlocked. “Charly? Charly!” he kept calling, but there was no one there.

He walked into the living room and saw pools of blood, everywhere. “Oh my God,” he kept saying over and over. He ran up the stairs and rushed to Charly’s bedroom, but she wasn’t there. There was something out from the mattress so he bent to pick it up and read:

  Blake,

You must hurry. Gather Ariana and get out of there. You’re next. He’s going to come after you, then Ariana. Hurry! You must save her! If you love her, you will do as you are told. Tell Taylor I love him.

  -Charly

He finished the note and was at a loss for words. “Who took her?” he asked himself. He noticed at the bottom in very small print, there was one word. Stefan. He picked up his cellphone and called Ariana. “Hey it’s Blake. We have a problem.”

“How could this happen?” No, wait, don’t answer that.” I said in exasperation. Blake looked about ready to kill someone. “She said Stefan took her. Who’s Stefan?” Blake asked. I looked at him and said in a horror filled voice, “oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no.” “What is it?” Blake asked, “What’s wrong?” I looked at him and said in a defeated voice, “Me, that’s what’s wrong. He took Charly in an effort to get back at me. I told him to leave me alone because I choose Blake. This is my entire fault.”

I started sobbing and couldn’t stop. He took me in his arms and said, “Hey, Hey, we’ll get her back. We’ll survive. We always survive.” I climbed out of his arms and exclaimed, “That’s just it. We won’t survive. I know exactly where Charly is, but if I go, I’ll die. And you know what else? Charly knew about me. She knew about my powers and we kept it a secret. She was acting to save me, to keep my secret intact. She is just like me, but not as powerful. She can move objects with her mind. She has telekinesis. I’m a warrior, she’s not. I’m the one that’s supposed to protect her! This is my entire fault. We have to leave now or she’ll die.” I was breathing fast and hard by the time I was done and he was looking at me wide eyed. I left and didn’t look back.

“Please! Don’t do this!” Charly cried as Lucifer chained her up. She wished he was as ugly and stereotyped as every human portrayed him as but, of course, he wasn’t. Only his eyes betrayed him. He was beautiful, as all Angels are.

He had blonde hair and red eyes. His skin was a perfect, pale, white complexion. He was wearing white shoes, a white shirt, tie, jacket, and white dress pants. He was in the place where all there is fire and there wasn’t one speck of soot on him. Everybody knows his personality which is obviously cruel.

He’s evil, cruel, and everything bad made into one evil Fallen Angel. He doesn’t care about anyone other than himself. He’s angry, conceited, and monstrous. He’ll do anything; kill anyone, to get what he wants. He’s demonic and doesn’t hate anyone more than Ariana “Anna” Morgan. He is also the high Fallen Angel.

“Oh, you know I have to, sweetheart.” Satan said, “I mean, after all, you’re the only thing that will lure Anna here. She must die.” This made Charly struggle even more. She would not give into Satan, she wouldn’t.

Satan smiled at that. “Perhaps, its time you meet a little friend of mine. Dakota! Come here and meet your new toy.” Dakota walked up to Charly and licked her lips gleefully. Charly’s eyes got all wide. “Is that really you, Dakota? You’ve been missing.” Charly said. “Yes, I know that, you idiot!” Dakota snapped. “Charlotte, I’ve been here the whole time and I like it.”

Charly’s eyes darkened. “Do not call me that,” Charly said with a dangerous tone in her voice. “Ariana will rip you to shreds if you lay one finger on me. You know that, right?” Dakota only smiled and so did Satan. That was the last thing she saw before it all went black.

I was on my way up to the Gates of Hell when I saw Taylor and Blake running up to me. Taylor got there first and tried to prevent me from going inside. “If you go in there, you’ll die. You know that, right?” he said. I looked him right in the eye and said, “I would die for Charly so get out of my way or I’ll kill you.” I walked right past him and into the Gates of Hell. Bye, Blake, I thought, I love you.

He knew I was there the second I stepped inside. What didn’t make sense was he didn’t send his armies after me. I looked around and noticed its red interior and black exterior. Everything was red and black. It was blood filled. There was human blood, which was the red
, and demon blood, which was the black.

I found Charly chained to a nearby tree made of fire and ashes. “Charly! Are you alive? Speak to me!” I yelled while panicking on the inside. She woke up and hugged me really tight.

I broke the chains and ran, but right when we were going to go through the Gates, Satan showed up with…Dakota? “You didn’t really think it would be that easy did you?” she taunted us. I smiled and laughed. “No,” I told them, “That’s why I brought back up.” I said this as Taylor and Blake showed up beside me and Charly. You couldn’t even imagine the shock of both Taylor and Blake backing us up. Taylor and Blake were both Satan’s high Angels, the ones he counted on the most. At this moment of surprise, we ran out, but not before Dakota followed us. Charly noticed her first and was ready. She used her telekinesis to hit Dakota repeatedly on every weakness on her body.

Dakota got so mad that she attacked me, and bit me, on my neck, deep. Blake was instantly at my side and carrying me to the car. “No!” I screamed, “Charly do it!” she took out her blade and plunged it right into Dakota’s heart. She killed her and then ran to our car. “Drive,” she ordered and we left, not aware that we were being followed.

  Chapter 3

We all jumped out of the car, ran into my house, and up to my bedroom. “I need bandages!” Blake yelled at them as I continued to be thrown back and forth between consciousness and unconsciousness. I grabbed enough strength to yell weakly, “Taylor, come here.” He did and I put my hand over his heart. “Charly,” I said, “While you were unconscious at the tree, I forgot to tell you something. Taylor saved your life, not me. He was stabbed.” I used the last of my magic to heal him. “Now it’s time for me to die.”

“No!” Charly cried, “We can save you! Come here.” She walked towards me and used some of her magic to heal me. I was transformed and back to normal, for me. “Guys, we have a problem.”
